Jessica
Before
becoming captivated by Middle Eastern dance, Jessica focused on Western
dance styles,
such as modern and jazz. Her exploration of Middle Eastern culture led
her to the art and beauty
of the Middle Eastern dancer. While dancing, Jessica pursued an academic
path obtaining an
Honours degree in History and German literature. She is currently studying
a Diploma of Education.
As
a soloist she has performed in a variety of venues and at a variety of
shows. Her love of
Middle Eastern music ensures a graceful and passionate dance performance.
Jessica has learned
to dance with some of Sydney's (and Australia's) best and most renowned
Middle Eastern dance
teachers, including Jane Jardines, Najet Elshaikh, Terezka Drnzik and
Jrisi Jusakos. All of her teachers
have been fundamental in Jessica's dancing development and career by generously
passing down
the beautiful technique and emotion behind the dance.
Drawing
inspiration from some of her favourite dance legends, Samia Gamal and
Naima Akef, Jessica
creates an image of elegance and grace creating artistic expression with
her body and face.
Jessica has also taught and choreographed performances and continues to
do so with
Cabaret Arabia and as a soloist. She is currently expanding her understanding
and experience of Arabic
culture by learning to play the oud with master oud player/composer/teacher,
Joseph Tawadros.
